BioCap is a conductivity-based milk freshness sensor that measures what’s actually in the carton — not a printed expiration guess. Designed, prototyped, and validated with scientific mentorship; won 1st place at CIJE Innovation Day and 1st Place Award for Invention from The National Institute of Innovative Sciences.
1st place CIJE Innovation Day; 1st Place Invention award (National Institute of Innovative Sciences); survey: 88% would use daily, 91% unsatisfied with expiration dates alone; targets ~$2B US household dairy waste.
Classic M&T loop: biophysics insight → engineered product → market/impact validation and awards. Science + build + go-to-market narrative.
Chose conductivity after evaluating pH strips and color sensors — bacteria raise ionic content in a measurable, portable, cost-aware way. Hardware, firmware, and user research had to move together.
